¡Feliz Noche de Bruja!

¡Hola Fonzfam!

Happy Halloween, or Witch Night in Spanish! I remember last year's Halloween and all the fun we had. Now that I'm in a YSA for the holidays, I'm really looking forward to all the fun and opportunities to invite so many nonmembers to come along. Last week's FHE was a Nerf War and the battle was intense! There were at least 30 of us including Cassie and Justin. We've had a really good week and we're excited to keep it going as November rolls around.

Cayman was baptized and confirmed! It was such an awesome baptism and it was well attended. Many nonmembers came including both Cassie and Justin from our teaching pool and 4 others who were brought by different members of the branch. Yesterday Cayman also was given the priesthood by his recently baptized brother Devan (who also baptized him). Their mom is so proud of them and can't wait to be taught everything so that she can soon be baptized too into the family ward. We're excited to start working with these brothers on family history so that they can prepare some names for the temple!

On Wednesday we had another opportunity to use chalkboards to help us find more people to teach. After figuring out the logistics of getting all of the pieces over to Gresham, we got permission to set up shop right on the Mt Hood Community College campus. As classes got out there were rushes of students and so many to talk to. Through the chalking event, we got a dozen people's contact info who we've been following up with. One of them named Amanda is meeting up with us this week and we're looking forward to it.

On my exchange with one of our district leaders, Elder Riding, we just had a failed contact attempt when we saw two YSAs getting out of their car across the street. We quickly crossed to go talk to them before they could get away. We were real and sincere in our conversation with them and we learned that these two girls knew many different members who attended our branch. They were excited when we invited them to come to some of our YSA activities. One of them, Daisy, said that she would love to sit down sometime and talk more with us because her mom had recently married a member and was baptized into the Church. This was just another example of God placing us to be in the right place at the right time to introduce the gospel to one of His prepared children.

In my personal study I was in Mosiah 23 and verses 10 & 11 really stuck out to me. With all I've done, I'm never able to do very much on my own without the help of the Lord. These couple verses show Alma's humility as he gives credit to God for the blessings he and his people have had. It's so amazing to me to see how the Atonement of Jesus Christ had changed him and it inspires me to do the same. In Sacrament Meeting yesterday, our Branch President spoke and commented on how intellectually we can know the gospel, but actual change and understanding only happens as we live the gospel. Wherever we are in our understanding of Christ's teachings, I invite each of us to reflect on our own commitment of living the gospel and look for opportunities to do a little more. I know that we will see more happiness in our lives and strength in our relationships with one another.

I hope that each of you have a wonderful Halloween and enjoy all the sweets. I love you guys so much! I'll talk to you next week!

Love,
Elder Fonnesbeck

PS. Cayman's baptism pictures on their way, but it might be next week if they don't come today.
