¡Hola Fonzfam!
If someone were to ask me how long I've been out I might answer, "For a while" or "I'm not sure, I stopped counting after a year" or something along those lines. Keeping it general has helped hide the inevitable. But it hasn't stopped it. I've been so blessed with all the experiences God has given me to learn and grow. This last week has added to this growth and I'd like to share it with you guys.
To get some miracles going in our zone, the zone leaders proposed that we do a zone fast Sunday. And did things happen here in the zone! There were miracles shared where spouses of long time members finally decided to get baptized to finding miracles as the gospel was introduced to people for the first time. One of those was this man we met from Guatemala named Edgar. The way we ran into him was divinely planned out. First we decided earlier that day to contact a former person from our Area Book right before dinner. Going by didn't turn out as we hoped, but I remembered that there was a member close by who could give us some insight on that person. After talking with them, we were headed on our way to go to dinner when a man walking his chihuahua near our car. We stopped him and got talking about his family and the many trials he's had. He really appreciated us stopping to talk to him and he invited us come over to meet his family this week! It didn't matter if it took up our dinner hour, we knew that we were placed in his path for a divine purpose.
Jacob was able to come to church for the first time Sunday. He loved it and it made him even more excited for his baptism. Unfortunately he's been facing some push back from his family who aren't too happy with him being involved with those of our faith, let alone joining us. He called us later Sunday night with some concerns, but we were able to have a good conversation and assure him of what he felt. He actually told us that the resistance he's been getting has made him want to be baptized even more. He remembers the warning we gave him when we first set his baptismal date, and he knows that as he continues to come to church and involve the gospel in his life outside of that, that he'll see the promised blessings and miracles.
Sunday night we were having a lesson with a recent convert named Rosa, helping her learn from the LDM. She shared with us some of the problems that she was facing and how she felt like she was lacking in faith to see the miracles. She undoubtedly knows that God is there, but she feels like she could be better at showing Him more faith. Between Ether 12:12 and Alma 26:35, we were able to bring in the Spirit really strong as we saw it was comforting her. We offered to give her a blessing of comfort to ease her stresses, and she accepted. Elder Vaquero and I layed our hands on her head and gave her a blessing that was definitely dictated by the Spirit. She was in tears, and even her daughter was crying and gave her mom a big hug after we finished. She was so grateful and said she was feeling a lot better about her life and how she was handling it. I feel like the miracle of that night came from the Priesthood. As directed by the Spirit, we were able to help serve Rosa in a way that very few people can in this world. What was said in her blessing was just for her from God. What an amazing thing that is! When I count my blessings, I make sure to remember that one.
There are only a handful of proselyting days left, and I'm not sure that the reality of what will be happening next week is sinking in. Even after my departing interview with President Bullen and my "funeral" at Zone Council yesterday, the fact that my mission is coming to an end is not hitting home. I know I'm not finished yet. Being a full-time missionary means all the way to the end. My patriarchal blessing talks a lot about service and missionary work and so I'm excited for the future that is in store. Thanks to all of you for your influence and support through emails, prayers, and love. I hope you have a great week!
Con Mucho Amor,
Elder Fonnesbeck
