¡Hola Fonzfam!
Once the rain clears and the sun comes out, people in Portland get a lot happier. This last week we've been blessed with incredible weather and we've taken full advantage of it as missionaries. Just around our apartment complex are many more as well as parks, so we just have to take a walk and get to talk to so many different people. It feels so good to be able to take off the coat and walk around in a white short sleeve shirt.
Before the end of this transfer(which is already going to be this week!) our President and Assistants had called all the zone leaders and sister training leaders to our second MLC(Mission Leader Council) of the transfer. This normally doesn't happen very often but we were able to get training on how to better use Facebook as we prepare to break our FB fast after 6 weeks. Also Elder Blunk of the area 70 and his wife did an awesome training on finding. They emphasized how in most cases the success of an area isn't determined by the area itself but by the missionaries who are assigned to it. The missionaries need to always be proactive in talking to everybody and asking for referrals too, if they simply apply those two things to their everyday life than their success will sky rocket.
We needed a miracle this week. Things had been kinda slow, so after specifically praying for something to happen, we left our car to go find somebody ready to hear the gospel. And we did! The first door we knocked a 60-year-old woman comes out and nicely greets us and asks who we are. We established our purpose and she expressed how she feels that she lacks a faith in Christ and that she doesn't really understand who he is. With this we bore testimony that the BoM can help her find the answers, since it is a book of scripture that mentions Christ over 4,000 times. She was so grateful and asked us when we could come back and teach her more. Happily we exchanged numbers and set up a time for this upcoming week. We'll have a pass off lesson with the Riverside Elders and we pray that she'll be able to feel the Spirit again. She described the Spirit to us as we testified as giving her "the hibbie jibbies." She's a great gal and totally prepared and ready to hear our message.
This past week our zone set another goal to find 9 new investigators, which would be quite a success story if we reached it. Through out the week other companionships had shared miracles of how they found new people to teach, but besides our one which we found, we needed someone for ourselves to find and teach. As our day ticked by we kept going from area to area, praying that we would find the someone elect. We had some great conversations and found a couple new potentials, but when 9pm came around we came up short. Even though we didn't get the number, which doesn't matter, we definitely learned how to pray with a lot of faith. We celebrated our efforts and the blessings along the way, giving thanks each and every time.
With transfers this week there are a few changes within our zone but for the most part we are staying the same. Elder Matheson didn't complain too much to have me as a companion so we'll be staying together for at least another 6 weeks. I'm looking forward to Mother's day as probably most missionaries are and for the chance to be able to talk with you guys again. Good luck to all of you with your end of level testing and end of school activities. I love you all so much! Take care this week!
Love,
Elder Fonnesbeck

April 24th, 2018:
Elder Fonnesbeck in our mailbox.
Excited as always to hear from our missionary nothing could have
prepared our hearts to take in the tragic news he shared with us.
After following our Savior's example and
renewing his baptismal covenants during the Sacrament each Sabbath Day
Elder Fonnesbeck's friend, Brian returned home to our Heavenly Father
last Tuesday, April 17th, 2018.
Elder Fonnesbeck testifies:
"I'm not thrown back or discouraged because I have a sure testimony of God's plan for us.
The Plan of Salvation. This is never going to waver. I know that I knew Brian before this life because I was always destined to meet him, and he was always destined to touch my life in a way no one else could. I know that I will see him again, shortly. He said he wanted to served a mission after watching General Conference with us.
Well, now he is. Not the way I imagined, or anybody else, but it's all just part of the plan, His plan. May rest come to his soul and peace to his family and friends, especially as they humble themselves and are able to be taught the message of restored truths. Brian was a friend, he was a brother."
Our family extends our prayers and condolences at this time to Brian's family,
his LDS Milwaukie Young Single Adult Ward Family
and those missionaries who are missing his smile & brotherhood in the gospel.
Families Are Forever.
