¡Está Caliente!

¡Hola Fonzfam!

This is the last week of June already?! It sure felt like it was summer earlier this last week. The mid 90's along with the humidity makes for some really hot afternoons and evenings. I went through a couple of shirts before things cooled off with an awesome thunderstorm halfway through the week. For people to be out and about to talk to there has to be the right mix of weather, it can't be too cold and rainy or too hot and humid. We had enough great days this week to talk to so many great people and share the gospel with.

Ok, so we had an awesome Vistor Center lesson with our good friend and investigator, Austin, this last Wednesday. It went so good and the Spirit was undeniable! After watching the Days of Harmony video we promised some hard core blessings and extended a baptismal invitation to him for July 21st. The Spirit was so strong that he began to shake from our invitation, but with that he said that he would seriously consider that day through prayer with God...fast forward to last night...One of his fellowshippers invited him to dinner and we shared the 3rd lesson with him after. Towards the end of this awesome lesson we followed up with him about his answer for July 21st. His answer kinda caught us off guard, but he said, "Let's go for it!" His sincerity and commitment shows us how he's really seeking for the truth and he believes that he's found it.

If you remember in last week's email I mentioned a referral that we got from the Salem Mission, Alex. We've been frequently meeting with him to teach him everything he needs to be prepared in time for his baptism this Saturday. For one of those lessons we took him to the temple visitor center where he learned more about eternal families and the restoration of the priesthood. After one of the videos he said that he was going to maybe cry one or two times during it. We then took him on a temple tour around the temple itself and he just ate it all up. He asked what's the limit of how many times can someone go to the temple because he wants to go everyday when that time comes for him! We are still amazed at how prepared and ready he is to live the gospel of Jesus Christ.

In my reading and study of the Book of Mormon, I've finished 2 Nephi this last week. Although the Isaiah chapters can be more difficult at times, I feel that I was able to have a greater understanding as I focused on certain questions I had. With studying the BoM, I've found it more fulfilling to read and study with those questions in mind, even written somewhere in a study journal. The scriptures have been "laid open to my understanding" as I've changed my study to this particular thing.

It's another great week and there are so many blessings that keep coming our way. Stay diligent and stay humble as you'll be blessed and protected through out the summer. I love you all and continue to pray for you daily!

Love,
Elder Fonnesbeck
The Portland Oregon Temple is so beautiful.

Austin is such a great guy and he loved going to the temple.

Alex is the one next to me with a couple of his friends/members to his other side.
