¡No Podríamos Cumplir la Obra sin Fe!

¡Hola Fonzfam!

Where is summer going? Last I checked it was June and the sun was up after 9pm, but now each new day is getting just a little shorter. Although the sun isn't spending as much time awake, its presence has been felt all summer long. Luckily there hasn't been as many 100°F weeks but only every few days or so it may get up there. The nights are cooling off better so that by morning it feels so refreshing as we go for a run.

This past transfer here in Tualatin has been a pretty good one. We've got one more week left before our zone changes up again. The work here in the Meridian Park ward has been a little different than what I've done in the past but that's what makes it fun! We've been having a lot of success with handing out dozens upon dozens of BoMs, getting return appointments from those BoMs, having members come to those lessons, etc. But we haven't been able to find anybody real solid who has an actual desire to know if the things we're telling them are true, until this last week. One person in particular we've met has come into our path and we're excited on where she will go.

Adwoa's story begins 2 years ago when she came to the US from Ghana. Once here she got married and now has a 1 year-old son. About 2 months ago, before I got here, Elder Clements and his last companion had OYMed her, given her a BoM, but were unable to later get in contact with her. It wasn't until this last Friday that he met her again during an exchange with another set of Elders in our zone. She told him that we could come back the next day to teach her more. So the next day we headed over to her apartment half-expecting her to be home, but having faith that she was sincere in wanting us to come back. On her door was a taped note that said not to knock because of her sleeping baby, so we tried to find her number to give her a call when the door just opened and she was there! She had read the beginning of the BoM but didn't really understand the background. It was amazing as we checked for her understanding throughout the Restoration lesson how she began to really grasp the message. We explained what a prophet does then asked her what that would mean to her if there was one living today to guide us in this crazy world. She smiled and said that it would mean the world to her. As we continued we could see the Spirit carry our message to Adwoa's heart. After she closed us with a beautiful prayer, she wanted to make sure that her husband was there for the next visit. We set up a return for this next weekend and we're hoping that she'll be able to come to church. We have yet to meet her husband to see what he thinks about all this, but we have confidence in our message. As long as we are worthy of the companionship of the Holy Ghost and we do all we can to be exactly obedient, we can expect those kinds of blessings to come.

The end of the Book of Mormon is so close! Reading Mormon's words I noticed something that made me kind of sad. He explains how he's led his Nephite armies out the hands of their enemies three times, but even with God helping them, they did not repent of their sins. Even after refusing to be their leader, he still prayed for them with the same love that God has for all of His children. The part that made me sad was when he says that he didn't pray for his brethren with faith because of the hardness of their hearts. They had gone so far off the path that there was very little to do for them, he still loved them. With the school year coming up you're going to see old friends and we're going to make new ones. You're going to make some great memories with most, but there may be some that are going to be a little more difficult to handle. When those hard times come, love them, pray for them, serve them. We are all in this life together as children of our Heavenly Father. Have a fun first week of school! I love you so much! Until next week:)

Love,
Elder Fonnesbeck
I thought saw my old car;)

Meet Laban:) We were asked by one of the District Leaders to dress up for his training demonstration on how to properly set goals and make plans using the story of Lehi's sons having to go get the brass plates.

When you have some left over pita bread, chedder dogs, salsa, and cheese, what do you make for lunch? Pizza!
