Hola Fonzfam!
Coming into this area I was honestly a little nervous for how finding would go. But we've been able to take advantage of our time spent out and about and from what members have been doing. We have Cayman's baptism coming up this Saturday and Cassie's coming up November 10th. The members of the YSA branch have been awesome in fellowshipping these guys and others who we're working with. There are so many different activities like FHE, Volleyball, Institute, Basketball, and Soccer throughout the week and so it's really easy to invite people to try something out that they like.
In preparation for our zone conference this last week we were instructed to download the Family Search App on our devices. To be used as another tool in our belt, our conference trainings were then focused on how to use family history as a way to find through members and in our own efforts as missionaries. The idea is to get people talking about their family by asking them different questions like, "What's your favorite memory with your family?" or "Do you know all of your grandparents? Great-Grandparents?" After getting a good conversation going we would invite them to come learn more about their family by meeting up with our Family History Consultant. I know that I love talking about my family and so we're excited to see where this can take us as a mission. To help get better at doing family history work, our Mission President has set aside one hour a week for all the missionaries to do their own family history work. He committed us to find and prepare at least one name for the temple for when we'll go again sometime in the beginning of 2019. The work is moving forward on both sides of the veil in the OPM!
Saturday night we were allowed to go to a regional YSA Ho-Down that was just north of our mission. We had a good time at the activity as we talked with less-active members who came and Cassie who we're teaching. We were able to use that opportunity to set up a couple more appointments with them. We were then approached by this member, who's leaving on a mission in just over a week, who said that she had someone for us to teach. She introduced us to her boyfriend, Justin, who grew up going to many different religions in California but is ready to just find the one. He said that he likes the family and social aspect of our church. We introduced him to the Book of Mormon and invited him to read the introduction before our first lesson on Thursday. It was so cool to be at the right place and right time for this member to be able to come right up to us with her friend.
With the new update on Gospel Library, I've been able to discover more of Pres Nelson's talks that he's given over the many years of his apostleship. In institute this last week we talked about what the prophet has recently taught us. He's taught us to seek our own inspiration and revelation. He's counseled us to study the words of the inspired leaders of the church frequently throughout the next 6 months. He's invited us to spend more time in the temple as new ones are getting constructed all over the world. The prophet is amazing as he's constantly in communication with the Lord and he's so aligned with His will.
Today is the last sunny day for a while because we have new wet storm blowing in tonight. No matter what the sun will always shine as we share the gospel light with those around us:D
