¡Me Quedan Cinco Meses!

¡Hola Fonzfam!

This year of 2019 has been a pretty good one so far. With a new companion, a new approach to the work, and a renewed sense of urgency, there is a lot I look forward to in the next five months as I can only imagine the blessings that God has in store for the people I'm teaching and the missionaries I serve around.

Carlos came to church again with his member friend who then set up a lesson for us to teach him that evening. Unfortunately we don't see Carlos making it very far because he's lacking real intent. We've taught him the What, Why, and How of the gospel, even given him the vision to be baptized and receive the Holy Ghost, and yet he won't even ask God whether or not the BoM is true. It seems to be out of pride or fear because we know that he knows what he must do. Until he reaches that point, then we are thinking of stopping the lessons with him soon. Other than him though, we have a handful of people who are sticking to our teaching pool. Spencer from last week brought his friend, Kyle, to our last lesson and now he's being taught as well. Eddie is someone new who's wanting to come to church and get involved as he discovers new things about religion as a whole. He trusts that this is the place where his answers lie. There are some good things going on and I know that it will get even better as we remain prayerful and faithful.

This is a small miracle, but I thought it was pretty cool. A week before Christmas we met this recently married man named Derek who moved into our complex a short time earlier. He was very enthusiastic for us to come over and teach him. He gave us his apartment number and we planned to go by after Christmas. Unfortunately, we must've taken down the wrong apartment because the one we knocked on was not him and not interested. Sadden to have past up that opportunity I prayed that we would meet him again.

Last night we came home after a busy day of finding and teaching lessons. We decided to pray to make sure our work was done for the day. As soon as we got out of our car we noticed this guy running towards us. It was Derek who was heading to the store for his wife. We quickly caught him and reconfirmed his desire to meet up and his other info and now we're going by on Friday to teach him and his wife about the gospel! The timing was perfect and divine. It had been a solid month from that exact day that we first ran into him and now we finally have something going. It'll be a pass off for the family ward missionaries but who cares, it's all the same work.

Earlier this week my companion and I were asked to speak in sacrament meeting yesterday which we both humbly and graciously accepted. The topic I was given was "The Love of Christ." It was pretty open-ended and so I could've done a lot of different things for it. I focused on three main questions: What is the love of Christ? Why is charity an important characteristic of Christ? And, How can we exemplify the love of Christ in our lives? There's always a vision of what you want your talk to be like. For me yesterday I felt like I didn't quite reach that vision haha, but either way I was able to testify of the love Christ has for me and for all of us. In baring my testimony I felt impressed to make a comment about how we are never unworthy of Christ's infinite love. No matter what kinds of mistakes we've made, He is always going to love us and want us to repent so that He may forgive us. I share His love for all of you. I hope you have a successful week in all that you need to do.

Love,
Elder Fonnesbeck

PS. Sorry, I didn't realize that I didn't take any pictures this week. Hopefully I'll have some after our pday activity. It's a district pday and so Elder Clements is doing a hotdog roast on the Sandy River this afternoon.
