¡La Primavera Esta Aquí Para Quedar!

¡Hola Fonzfam!

It's hard for me to believe that just over a week ago there was snow falling from the sky, and now it's in the 70s and feels amazing! The trees are slowly but surely showing signs of life as new leaf buds grow bigger and bigger. With the evenings now brighter than ever it's way more fun to be outside. We love to do our studies out in different parks whenever we can. Because of it we've had some awesome conversations with people who have come up to us.

Well I can say that this last week had it's ups and downs as it usually does. We were able to meet up with and teach a lot of our people like Martin & Padi, Aurora & her family, Jesus, and Brandon this last week. All those lessons were so good and things were looking great for church yesterday, but when Sunday morning came, one by one all of them fell through on their commitments to come to church. We had members extend invites, rides were all lined up, questions pertaining to the sacrament meeting topic were prepared, but nobody was able to make it for this reason or that. Next week will be better, it has to be haha. At least by the end of the day yesterday my companion and I could say, "What more could we have done for our vineyard."

But a cool little tender mercy happened last night as we were leaving an area after being there for a little bit with little success. As we were backing out of our spot, a door opened and an older woman was standing there just looking at us. We needed to get going to our next appointment but as I got into the car Elder Silva looked at me and was like, "We need to talk to her." So we got out and greeted her. She was very nice and of a Catholic background but interested in the possibility of there being a living prophet and apostles. We asked her when we could come back and she said to come back the next day, which is today! It was another miracle that came from heeding to the prompting of the Spirit.

Our mission is having a temple trip at the beginning of next month, April 2nd. And with the excitement of the Rome temple, I decided to watch the temple tour in my personal time. After hearing the testimonies of Elders Rasband and Bednar, I internalized everything they said and the feelings I had at that moment. What peace and serenity the temple brings. Here in Portland, the temple is right next to the interstate which is always loud and busy with trucks, cars, and motorcycles. But one of the most beautiful things I've experienced with this temple is that once you've entered the doors, whether to the indoor garden or to the baptistry, silence is all you hear. It's such a beautiful gift to be able to step away and out of the world and into heaven here on earth. You don't know how excited I am to have another opportunity to do that here in a couple weeks.

To all of you back home, I love you! Take care this week and enjoy the sunshine!

Con Amor,
Elder Fonnesbeck
